COOK TEMP
medium-high heat
COOK TIME
10 minutes
Ingredients — Griddle Patty Melts
4 slices
hearty bread (sourdough, rye, or Texas toast)
Mayonnaise (for spreading on the bread to toast)
1 thick 1/2 lb
ground beef patty (seasoned with salt and pepper to taste)
4 slices
American cheese
1/4 cup
mayonnaise
1-2 Tbsp
your favorite hot sauce
1 clove
garlic (minced)
Ketchup (to taste)
caramelized onions or pickles
Method — Griddle Patty Melts
1
In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, hot sauce, and minced garlic until smooth. Set aside.
2
Preheat your flat top or griddle over medium-high heat. Place your thick 1/2 lb beef patty directly onto the hot griddle and cook for 4 to 5 minutes per side until well-browned with a nice crust and cooked through to your liking. Remove the patty from the griddle and set aside. Wipe down or clear the griddle surface if needed.
3
Spread a generous layer of mayonnaise across one side of each slice of bread to get that golden-brown, crispy toast on the flat top.
4
Place the bread mayo-side down directly onto the medium-heat griddle. Layer 2 slices of American cheese on two of the slices of bread.
5
Place your cooked 1/2 lb patty to fit nicely across the cheesy bread bases, or place it right down in the center. Drizzle your hot sauce aioli and add a squeeze of ketchup right over the beef. Top with the remaining 2 slices of American cheese.
6
Cap the sandwiches with the remaining bread slices (mayo-side facing out). Press down gently with a spatula and grill for 2 to 3 minutes per side until the bread is deeply golden-brown and crispy and the American cheese is fully melted and gooey.
7
Cut in half and serve hot!
